Syphilis case is diagnosed in Boston.

In his journal, John Winthrop writes, “There fell out a loathsome disease at Boston, which raised a scandal upon the town and country, though without just cause.” The first reported cases of syphilis in Boston, it is also called morbus Gallicus (the French disease) or “the plague of Venus.”
